Home Churches
In some situations it is beneficial for a student to carry out their placement in a home church context. If you think that this might be the case, here are some questions worth asking:
- Does the student have experience of other churches/denominations?
- How long have they worshipped at your church? Have they always worshipped there with their family?
- What is your student’s current role within the church? Would it change with placement? Would you offer them new opportunities?
- As an LST placement student, your student would be serving the whole church and could not simply stay within their existing friendship group: how will you communicate this shift to the church? How will you ensure the student understands this?
- Do you support your student financially? If so, do you expect them to continue serving at your church because of this? If appropriate, would you consider releasing them from their duties for a year?
If your student is voted onto Committee
Each February, the student body votes for their new student committee. They are then installed after Easter. If your student is voted onto committee it may impact their placement with you in the summer term as the two roles will run in tandem. Committee members still have to complete their existing placement but they may have to review their level of commitment. If this happens we will be in touch with you to make appropriate arrangements.
Expenses
Students expect no payment for their placement with you. However, please consider covering/contributing to your student’s travel and food expenses, especially in the case that they will miss a meal otherwise provided by college.
Timetable Clashes
Certain regular and occasional commitments within the Music Department (Viva Voce, choir, concerts, recitals, and weekend intensives) take precedence over placement commitments but placements should take priority over everything else.
Complaints Procedure
If there is a complaint against a student by a supervisor, Vocational Services will investigate the complaint – first, with the student and then, if necessary with the supervisor and student together. If necessary, Vocational Services will also refer to the student’s Tutor and the Pastoral Care Team and will at all times follow LST's Student Disciplinary Policy.
If there is a complaint against a supervisor or a member of their placement church/organisation by a student, Vocational Services will investigate. How this is done will depend on the nature of the complaint. Vocational Services is willing to withdraw a student if it is no longer deemed to be a suitable or safe placement environment. In this case, Vocational Services and the student will work together to find an alternative placement.
Any LST alumni, who are in debt to the School without a repayment plan in place, cannot take on the role of placement supervisor to our students.
