  • How to best capture your experience

    • We suggest that you complete an Informal Placement form: setting objectives is a good way of clarifying what you intend to achieve through your placement.  This is best done collaboratively with your supervisor.

Each of your objectives should be action orientated and S-M-A-R-T:

Specific - each objective should be a clear and precise statement of intent and outcome. WHAT exactly will I be doing?

Measurable - it should be easy to determine whether each objective has been achieved. HOW will I know I have done it?

Achievable - each objective should set a realistic target. CAN I do it?

Relevant - each objective should be relevant to your formation. IS it relevant?

Time-specific - each objective should have a fixed limit. WHEN will I finish the task?

and should relate to at least one of the Key Development Areas:

      • Communication
      • Working with others
      • Improving learning and performance
      • Problem solving
      • Christian formation

On completion of your placement you and your supervisor review what you have done and how you have grown through the experience.  This is the chance for your supervisor to give feedback and to capture their testimonial, which you can add to your Personal Development Portfolio.  They might also be prepared to act as a referee for a job application.
