How many placement hours are you required to complete?
Placement is timetabled for a minimum of 72 hours (averaging 3.5-4 hours per week over 20 placement weeks, Oct-May). These should be evenly spread over two semesters (no more than 45 hours will generally be authorised in your first semester, though you are welcome to do more!). Online students and those carrying out placement in a home church setting can continue placement hours through LST campus vacations.
Remember, you are making a commitment to the church, so it is key that you stay the course, building relationship and a servant attitude across the year. Getting your placement underway by the end of October is important: time is short and it is largely those students who delay at the beginning who struggle to complete at the end.
There is no upper limit to placement hours, as long as neither your studies nor your well-being is compromised. Please come to see us if you feel your supervisor’s expectations of you are unrealistic and we will work with you to resolve this. We are in regular contact with placement supervisors through the academic year.
