  • What placement in your first year looks like

    • Both Practical Placement (TH4012) and Worship Ministry in Practice (TM4307) modules are a blend of acquisition activities through plenary sessions and practical ministry, providing an effective training environment for students to apply in the ‘real world’ what you’re learning at LST. You learn to identify, develop and pass on your practical gifts and skills, whilst growing in your Christian character, exploring leadership potential and being shaped for future life and ministry.

In your first-year you will carry out your placement in a local church setting because we consider it vital that you learn (or continue to learn) what it is to be a servant-hearted member of a faith community outside LST.

We encourage you to engage deeply with your placement church and reflect theologically on your experience. Outside college, this will be your fellowship focus and we trust you will participate in the life of your placement church and attend regularly on a Sunday as part of your worship – these hours are generally only counted if you are actively involved in an area of service (eg. helping lead a youth group). Where possible, aim to attend a mid-week group – again, these hours generally only count if you are actively serving (eg. leading the study).

Non-residential and online students: we will work with you on an individual basis to place you either in your home church or another suitable local church, as appropriate. NB: for part-time students (both campus and online) the placement module is timetabled in the 2nd of a two-year cycle.
